Who We Are

You've got the idea, and you've got the words. Now, you just need the tools to get it all on paper. If you are an author (or an author-to-be), we would like to talk to you. At Knave, we have a hand-picked family of genre authors and creators who are working together to build a small, hands-on publishing community. We want to work with new authors to develop their craft, find the right editors, artists and sales channels.

So, how does this all work? Actually, the Knave Publishing process is a fairly uncomplicated arrangement. We work with a small group of authors to develop their branding, their voice, their books and their sales processes. There is no financial commitment or up front payment. Our authors are free to work with whichever editors, artists and platforms they prefer. We are only here to support and learn from one another under a common publishing banner.

What do Knave authors receive? First, our Knave authors receive the benefit of being a part of a larger picture. A good experience with an editor, a bad return on a marketing opportunity, a new hack for leveraging sales positions — all are shared to the betterment of the group and the individual authors. In addition, Knave Publishing reps our authors' books and upcoming projects at a half-dozen or so literary and genre events around the southeast United States each year. We also promote our authors' book launches and existing catalogs through social media and via the Knave web site. As always, there is no charge for these services. We believe that we are all building brand awareness and individual cache through the strength our our work and our collective brands.

What does Knave get in return? We ask for three things in return. First, we ask that our authors participate and share their experiences with the other authors in our family. If you are within travel distance of an upcoming Knave event, we would LOVE to have you attend in person. Meet your readers, make a few new friends, spread the Knave word and help us all build our brand. Second, we ask for a 10% commission for any books sold through the Knave Publishing website. This is a token amount and basically helps us cover web server and admin costs. Third, we ask you to be good stewards of the Knave name. There's no polite way of saying this, but our goal is to be a group that others ENVY. We want our authors to stand out in their genres and make Knave proud. We will do everything we can to make this so. We just ask you do the same.
